First as an assistant photographer, then as a young father, later for Art Basel and finally as a contract photographer. Miami and in particular Miami Beach seemed to exert an almost magical attraction on me. I remember the run-down hotels on Ocean Drive, where you could get a room for 20 bucks a night and witnessed, how a city with one single skyscraper turned into an ocean of high-rise buildings. It was at the same time extremely fascinating and totally depressing. Over the course of just three decades, a forgotten area in the southern part of Florida, turned into one of the most vibrant cities in the US.
